At Hill Country Detox, we provide family support for the loved ones of our clients in detox treatment. In doing so, we are able to guide families through the many physical, emotional, and psychological changes they will experience during this time. Additionally, our support services initiate the family healing process that can be continued in therapy upon enrollment in a rehab program. We provide the following support services to assist you and your loved one throughout the detox and withdrawal process.
We provide daily progress reports – While your loved one is in detox at our facility, we will call you daily to provide updates on their physical, emotional, and psychological status. We do this to provide peace of mind and education concerning the treatment of your loved one.
We answer your questions – We understand that all of this may be new to you. Whether it’s your loved one’s first time in detox or they’ve been in and out of treatment for years, our staff is here to answer any questions you have and provide additional information and resources for drug and alcohol abuse education and treatment.
We make sure you are included in all decision-making processes – Our top priority is the safety and well-being of your loved one. As issues and changes in your loved one’s treatment plan arise, we will make sure to notify you so you are well-informed and updated at all times.
We provide emotional support – It’s natural to be nervous or to feel uneasy about dropping your loved one off at a detox facility. Our detox counselors are here to provide emotional support as both you and your loved one process the changes that occur during detox.
We encourage family involvement during detox for a number of reasons. First and foremost, family involvement during this time helps the client develop and maintain a new sober lifestyle alongside his or her family members at home. Your loved one’s detox counselor can help you understand what they are experiencing in detox and how you can modify the home environment to help them maintain their sobriety upon returning home.
Additionally, family involvement during detox will help you transition out of crisis mode and into a more stable state of mind and living environment. Your loved one’s detox counselor can help you address and modify negative behaviors such as enabling and co-dependency to help create a healthier, substance-free environment at home.
Your involvement in your loved one’s detox program will also provide awareness and a deeper understanding of the complex issues that addicted and physically dependent individuals face in detox and recovery.
Before detox – To get your loved one to go to detox, you’ll need to express your concern for their well-being in a loving, respectful way. Once you have clearly communicated the ways in which their substance abuse has harmed you and other members of your family, they must then make the decision to seek treatment.
During detox – While your loved one is in detox, the best thing you can do for them is to take care of yourself. Often times families spend so much time focusing on the needs and concerns surrounding the addicted individual that they forget to take care of their own needs. Use the time apart to rest and do something for yourself, knowing that your loved one is in good hands. If you’d like to, you may also write a letter to your loved one to encourage them.
After detox – Once your loved one has completed their detox program at Hill Country Detox, our multidisciplinary treatment team will provide recommendations for ongoing treatment based on their needs. During this time, you can encourage your loved one to continue on with the recommended treatment plan and help them enroll in an inpatient or outpatient addiction program, if applicable. We also recommend that you participate in family counseling to encourage continued healing of the family unit.
