Polysubstance detox is a medical intervention that helps you safely withdrawal after using more than three substances in a 12-month period. If you are living with chronic substance abuse involving multiple addictive drugs, you should consider beginning your addiction treatment with an individualized detox plan as part of a comprehensive treatment program.
If you have a complex drug and alcohol use history, medically-assisted polysubstance detox is the safest way to stop all use of addictive substances. Withdrawal from multiple substances is highly unpredictable so you will have many unique treatment needs during detox. Because of this, it is vital that you are monitored in a medical environment to ensure your overall safety and comfort.
If you continuously use or abuse more than one substance, you may be prone to withdrawal from more than one of these substances. Detox protocol for multiple drugs is highly individualized and can be performed by combining the multiple detox protocols. At Hill Country Detox, we take the time to gather pertinent information about your health, substance abuse history and co-occurring conditions to provide a safe detox experience and help you begin living a sober, healthy life.
The duration of your polysubstance detox program will vary based on a number of factors, including (but not limited to):
Once we have completed a personal assessment, we can give you an accurate timeframe for your treatment.
Withdrawal Symptoms
Polysubstance withdrawal is very unpredictable so it’s impossible to provide a definite list of physical symptoms you will experience. Generally, withdrawal symptoms from addictive substances may include nausea, vomiting, mood fluctuations, sweating, insomnia and changes in heart rate, respiration and blood pressure.
Medical Management of Symptoms
At Hill Country Detox, our medical staff has the necessary knowledge and experience to detect and treat the withdrawal symptoms of all addictive substances so you can comfortably reach a stable physical state of being. If necessary, our medical staff will administer tapering medication to ease the severity of your physical symptoms during withdrawal.
Comprehensive Assessment
Your detox program will be based on the findings of a comprehensive assessment that will determine your physical, emotional and psychological needs. Throughout your detox program, you will work one-on-one with a thorough multidisciplinary team to ensure all of your needs are being met. This team is made up of a staff psychiatrist, a licensed chemical dependency counselor and a recovery specialist. Your team of addiction specialists will design a detox treatment program that is tailored to your specific needs and then update it as you progress through the treatment plan.
Supervised Detox
Our supervised detox programs are highly collaborative, as they involve consistent communication between you and our treatment team. At Hill Country Detox, our nurses are on-site 24/7 and will check on you every four hours to monitor your vitals and make sure you are comfortable.
Individual and Group Counseling
Detox counseling is contingent on your physical well-being and is primarily focused on your present state of being. In meeting with your counselor, you will discuss your current emotions and thoughts while also addressing harmful behaviors and thought processes that may have contributed to your substance abuse. The counseling portion of your detox program helps prepare you mentally and emotionally for ongoing treatment.
At the completion of your polysubstance detox program, your treatment team will provide recommendations for your continued care. This may include long-term residential drug rehabilitation, an intensive outpatient program or a community sober living program. Although ongoing treatment after detox is not required, continued rehabilitation only increases your opportunity for long-lasting recovery and decreases the likelihood of relapse.
